In 2012 a member and very dear friend Bob Kuk owner and founder of Kuks Forest passed away. He was a member of both Midland Hosta Society and North Coast Hosta Society. He left instructions that both clubs could come to his nursery and take home some of his hosta. We were allowed only 6 members and one day to dig up hosta for the club. The following pictures show what we have accomplished for our club. It was late in the season and the deer had eaten the hosta so we only had name tags to try to id what we were bringing home.
President Tom Michel selected Lori and Bill Lehman, Donna McMillen, Cindy Wieland, himself and his wife Linda and we set to work. We brought home a trailer full of sad looking hosta and put them in the ground. This spring the tree shading the area came down so we decided that we had to put them all into pots to finish growing up enough to id correctly. Pots were donated by Cindy Wieland and after talking to Dennis from DJ's Nursery they were potted in

14-21 day equilibration after moistening and at production temperatures Over 1000 hosta were potted up. Many need time to grow enough to be able to id them correctly. Sadly not all of them were strong enough to make it through their first winter. We are hoping to be able to continue bringing these hosta for many years to come to our hosta funtions. With patience we can divide these hosta as they mature and always have some of these special plants for our club.

All planted in the ground. You can see there wasn't much of them left to id as we dug.

As you can see some of these hosta are very small and need to grow up a bit.
